This $10 Camera Shoots Nice Colors
I found a Panasonic Lumix GF2 at about USD10 only! I thought, it was a no brainer, and the camera was still in great working condition. I brought the camera out for some shutter therapy, and the color rendering of the GF2 surprised me, for the first time, I do love Panasonic colors. I know some will say "but we can't find this for 10 dollars elsewhere", now, that is just the buyer's luck, which happens like once in a purple moon.

Best Budget Mirrorless Full Frame Setup For Portraits
Просмотров 5 тыс.21 час назад
Since I got myself the Nikon Z5, I just have to have an 85mm lens for shooting portraits. There are some budget alternatives available, but I chose the Viltrox 85mm F1.8, having used some of their lenses in the last with good results. I was happy with this choice, the Viltrox 85mm performed very well on the Nikon Z5, rendering sharp images with beautiful bokeh, and the AF on Z5 was pretty fast ...
Is This Still Worth Getting for Micro Four Thirds?
Просмотров 4,9 тыс.14 дней назад
I found the Sigma 19mm F2.8 in a clearance sale at the price that I cannot resist. I bought it and was curious about the older Sigma primes for mirrorless cameras. This was designed to cover the APS-C sensor size mounts, but was ported over for Micro Four Thirds. In the earlier days, there were not many choices of lenses and Sigma added to the variety of options. I wonder if this lens is still ...

This Changed The Landscape Of Compact Cameras
Просмотров 11 тыс.Месяц назад
Sony was the first to implement the 1 inch image sensor in a compact camera and that took the world by storm. It was so successful that even Canon and Panasonic came up with their own variants. I found the original RX100 in the used marketplace and bought it out of curiosity. I took it out for some shutter therapy action, and I shared my thoughts about the Sony RX100 that changed the landscape ...

We Need More F1.4 Lenses For Micro Four Thirds
LUMIX GF2 is a good camera. Too bad it's hard to find one in good condition nowadays. But still, $10 is cheap.
I appreciate this video! It helped me purchase my first camera! Very impressed by its specs on paper and the lens recommendation will be a game changer. I am having trouble finding that lens for that price tho. Could you help me? Thanks!
Hello, do you think it's worth it to get something like this sigma for my E-pl5? Or should i just save a little and get the yongnuo 25 f1.7 (or the 42.5) instead?
Your RUclips videos are pure pleasure to watch
Thanks!
No way! I picked up one of these last year for $20. I'm still an olympus fan for M4/3, but for the price I couldn't resist it. Thanks for another get video Robin!
Sir how to buy this phone?
Hello does it make sense to get this lens for me If I own 12-40 2.8 ? Or should I go for the 56mm version ? (I plan to buy 40-150mm for the future, but for now I want some prime)
Alternative- a Canon Eos RP Used with the Canon RF 85mm 2.0 IS Macro. Its good that we have today such Options for our Photography.
I'm still thinking about this camera and the Sony ZV1. My photography is 90% bnw street. Any suggestion?
hi robin, nice video as always, can you look into lumix gx7 perhaps? other youtuber suggested it is a good street photography gear too. thanks!
Don't think I have seen any GX7 in the marketplace.
@@robinwong rare if you could find gx7 in malaysia i think 🤣
that’s a lovely shutter sound !!
That shutter sound was ugly.
I’m loving my olympus xz-1 from 2011 just purchased…. skin tones are great!
XZ-1 does have some nice colors.
@@robinwong btw that shadowy image if yours is the best… remarkable
I was really amazed at the portrait you have taken with ISO25400 and still get such a good result. Has both GM1 and GM5 as well as all lenses that fit. Perfect travel cameras and indeed for portrait shooting. They are so small that they do not frighten the subject Two cameras, two lenses, or 3-4, and still less than a kg on the journey.
Fun factor, I have lots of old Nikkor and Zuiko lenses and Metabones Speedbooster for both of those mounts. Have the Nikkor 300mm F/2.8 and if you have the GM1 behind it, you will almost see the camera. What about a 210mm F/2.0 and a GM1?
Robin could shoot with a pin hole camera and still get better images than me 😁
Thanks, you are too kind!
One thing that I really wish was built-in GPS in M43 cameras, so every photo I took would automatically have geotag, and it would be much easier to sort them when upload to google or apple albums. Costs maybe $5 to add that...
You can sync your camera to your phone and add all the GPS info that you want in newer Wifi capable cameras.
GF2 was my first camera and I have bought and sold so many since then but kept my OG GF2. Now I find myself shooting with it again for the nostalgia and realizing it wasn’t as limiting as I thought it was when I “upgraded” from the GF2 all those years ago.
Yeah the GF2 is still quite a capable camera today!
Are the Images color corrected?
No.
Robin,I love your passionate explanation. It was your article from many years ago that made me get this lens, and I'm still using it. It has captured countless wonderful photos of me and my family, and because of it, I will always stay with the M43 system. Thank you so much!
Hi Robin, I bought a white GF2 for a friend earlier this year for $70 USD. It was in mint condition and came with the box, paperwork and accessories. I also gave her my silver Lumix 12-32mm pancake lens. It's a nice looking compact system which produces nice photos in good light. I do prefer Olympus colors and I also noticed the shutter was a little loud. I have shot it a few times and think it is a very good beginner's camera. Thanks for the video
Overall the GF2 colors are very similar to what Olympus produces. And yes, that shutter sound was just too loud
Thanks for the inspiration. I'm relatively new to photography and especially to MFT. I got the 12-40/2.8 and the 45/1.8 and I love them both. I also got the 35-100/2.8 and 100-300/4.0-5.6 which I use a lot. Once I got the 25/1.7, but it had to go.
Hey Robin! I just purchased this lens second hand here in KL based on your review. I am loving it so far! Thank you for all of the detailed reviews!
A great deal & what appears to be a great little shooter. Good vid, Robin. Whoa! Some great pics here too.
Thanks! Appreciate that.
Nice summary for my decision for m43 telephoto. My take is a little different than most because I am not a pro, but I like m43 for the tele stuff and FF for everything else. On trips, I also learned that I cannot stand switching lenses, so I bring 2 bodies and having the tele lens on my Panasonic G9 it weighs far less than a super long lens on a FF camera. I am setting up some giant sunset shots, where I zoom in all the way and get people on the pier for a very dramatic shot. Its down to what I can get used between the Olympus and the Panasonic. I notice the panny is significantly more as I think people figured out the extra aperture and stab are the difference. It is nice to hear that there probably isnt much IQ diff between the 2 in the end. Off to ebay to see what I can find. Thanks for the review.
I bought a GH1 for 50usd excluding the lens which is awesome
What a great bargain!
Wow this is my first interchangeable lens camera. I didn't know why people love the colors now. It was critisized a lot back then and always compared to olympus E-P1 & E-P2. I love this camera, and bring it often, even when I have GX85.
The colors looked great to me.
Delightful episode Robin! Always fun to hang out in Kuching for a bit, Love it! Also a meeting Kieron and getting acquainted with his work. Love the colors of the K-01 and it seems like it might match well with older Pentax m42 lenses.
Should try Dji 15mm F1.7 same body and m4/3 mountz there said for drone
I have a GF3 that I use occasionally. I have a 14mm pancake lens on it and don't find the lack of stabilization to be a problem. I do use my Olympus E-M5 more often.
Yeah the E-M5 is definitely a superior camera
Those photos are taken with a collection of lenses, not only the 24 mm...
Disagreeing with me about something or having different opinion is perfectly fine. But to ACCUSE me of lying in my video, this I cannot accept. I have 100% foolproof evidence I used only ONE lens, the Olympus 25mm F1.8 to capture ALL the images shown in the video. I even have a witness. What did you have to come and claim that I have lied to my audience? That is a very serious allegation and I do not take this lightly.
@@robinwong I"m sorry, I didn't mean to accuse you. Maybe the problem is that the lens is a real 25 mm, and I took it like a "25 mm equivalent", maybe you showed the camera with a zoom lens attached, or maybe the images are cropped, because they don't look like taken with a short lens. Anyway, I'm sorry...
Thanks @@pcaridadI appreciate that.
bargain find robin! i personally found Olympus colours unfixable in post because of the slight green cast i tended to get. as a result im just a Panasonic and canon user. for those who says clickbait and such, keep an eye out, you never know what you will stumble upon by surprise.
I never had any issue with Olympus colors, they look natural and pleasing to me. No color cast at all, unlike Panasonic that can't even get colors right in daylight, outdoor.
I skipped the gf2 as it wasn't much of an upgrade over the GF1 got me addicted to the tilting EVF :D pana 14-45 kit lens or pana 20mm could get quite astonishing results
yeah it was not much different from the GF1
Robin, your photos are edited? Or strait out of câmera?? 🤔
Does it matter? Short answer - 99.999999999999999999999% straight out of camera.
@@robinwong thanks Robin!! I ask, because in a lot of videos, they review the camera and show photos hardly edited, and we don't see how these photos came... Personally I like shoot jpegs, and I adjust before taking a photo, a little contrast or saturation... I love your videos, and your reviews!! 😎👍
Whaaat?? I’ve just ordered one for £60! Was I ripped off! lol
Go return it!
I own 2x GF1, 1x GF2, 1x GX1, GX800, 3x EP1, 1x EP1L (IR full spectrum) and love them all .. Cheap, well made and loads of small lenses for them.
Yeah it is the small lenses that make the most fun
That shuttersound is nothing compared to my Canon eos 1d mark 3. I hardly heared it I was like that is not loud at all. My Canon m6m2 is louder.
Comparing with a DSLR makes no sense, as they had mirror mechanism, which was absent in mirrorless cameras. I have not heard anything LOUDER than GF2 in the Micro Four Thirds system yet.
I still use my GF3,small great for basic street photography.
indeed, the GF series is great for street
You can use it with a stabilized like te 42mm I have on my gf1 and use it for portraits etc
No, image stabilization should be built INTO the camera and then it can stabilize ANY lenses you mount on it, not the other way around. Panasonic is slowly learning and catching up on this mistake. Their newer bodies follow what Olympus did more than 10 years ago - include 5-Axis IS in body.
If you think about it, 2011 was really around the heyday of photography. Camera sales were booming. I even went on a few photography trips that were organised by a regular operator. And micro 4/3 did very well to ride that wave. Even in 2015 or so, I recommended a colleague to look at it instead of buying a DSLR. I think he got an Olympus camera eventually. Makes me a bit sad that it's gone downhill from there.
Very true, Micro Four Thirds showed so much potential.
Wow, love those colours Robin! What a great buy, and at that price you could give it to a child to begin their photographic journey without worrying unduly about it getting damaged. The combination of your composition skills, the photogenic light in Malaysia and your CaptureOne processing always seems to produce fantastic photos, with great clarity and colours. I know you are undecided about whether to publish a video on your post processing methods, but I for one would love to find to find out how the photo magic happens!
Thanks for the kind words. The thing about my post-processing video - people will be disappointed, there is nothing much to share, I did not do anything special, all the adjustments were very minor
I have the slightly older GF1 (well, older in comparison to this one... quite old compared to modern standards) but I do agree that these shoot some nice colors and the image quality is not that bad, even compared to a more modern-ish camera). Actually got it for about $20 with 2 batteries (but no charger, and one reason I got it so cheap). Plus the used camera clerk couldn't figure out how to check the shutter count so they were going to just throw it in the "cheap" bin. I actually figured out how to check it and only 1100 shots on it. It's like new except for one minor scratch on the body. But shoots great pictures and well worth the $20 (I did have to buy a charge for it and got a third battery for another $20 on Amazon but for $40 total have a nice little camera. I did have to buy a lens though, so I found a used 12-32 for about $90 on MPB. But it's my day to day EDC camera now (as I shoot FF, sometime I just don't want to carry around a 3 lb camera setup). H ave been contemplating getting either a 17mm or 25mm prime.
Tell that to a lot of people who said I was exaggerating on my video title. And you had a spare battery, which costs more than 10 dollars! Either 17mm or 25mm, you won't go wrong, both are good lenses.
Funny because mine that i bought in 2012 has always had a green colour cast on camera jpgs, especially on skin. My Gh1 and Gh2 have the same green cast. RAW images i can manipulate to pleasing results, but im not a big fan of RAW. The reason i bought these 3 cameras over 10 years ago was for the video bitrate hack, i shot hundreds of event videos with a GH1 in a waterproof housing all from the back of a jetski on the ocean as my shooting platform. But i never used any of them for still images. I still have all 3 fully functioning cameras and all 3 still have the video bitrate hack applied.
I did not notice any green cast at all, both JPEG and RAW.
You're enthusiasm and positivity is infectious. Thankyou for sharing
One of my favourite 'retro' cameras, which I often pair with the Panasonic 20mm F1.7.
A very good combo
Does anyone know why the camera EM 10m II - makes noise when turned on and why you can hear the internal hum of its operation in video, the fan?
It's because the Image Stabilization is on and that's quite normal tho
Robin, no matter which camera you use, your photos are always great. Here you can see that the camera you use has hardly any influence.
Thanks, you are too kind!
Got mine with 14mm lens for about 35 dollars, no charger and no battery
Yours is a better deal, with a 14mm lens which by itself costs more than 35 dollars already
Some quick googling from reviews back in the day suggests "Rumour says that Panasonic makes the sensor chip used in both Panasonic and Olympus cameras". Wish Lumix would have stuck with whatever approach was giving them good colors until this point .. !
Manufacturing wise they can't beat Sony.
